Since 2007, Jeffri has been teaching in and advising Chinese arts management programs around the country and has co-authored the seminal book, RESPECT FOR ART: VISUAL ARTS ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT IN CHINA AND THE UNITED STATES with Professor Yu Ding. The text, and her lectures, range from the creation of private foundations to public art to research on individual artists.
QATAR MUSEUMS AUTHORITY
Director of Pedagogy for a 14-month arts management and leadership certificate program for employees of the Qatar Museums Authority with involvement by the government, and cultural leaders from inside and outside of the country.
As the Middle East blossoms, Qatar is becoming a leader in the cultural sphere with plans to develop museums, galleries and cultural venues to accompany the spectacular I. M Pei-designed Museum of Islamic Art, Mathaf – the Arab Museum of Modern Art, the Orientalist Museum, and the Jean Nouvel-designed National Museum of Qatar. This academic program in arts management and cultural leadership called Qreation Generation, offered a combination of theory and practice, local and international expertise and input from the Center for Creative Leadership.
RESEARCH CENTER FOR ARTS AND CULTURE, INTERNATIONAL VISITING SCHOLARS
Jeffri developed a program for mid-to-senior level arts managers and academics to come to the Research Center for Arts and Culture for 4-8 months to investigate a particular area of interest to the scholar, with advisement by an advisory board of mentors, meetings around the country with specialists and presentation and publication assistance and opportunities. Two examples: a visiting scholar from Shanghai developed the first writing in China investigating the profession of the curator and comparing curatorship in China (historically undertaken by artists) and the US; a visiting scholar from Japan who runs a nonprofit in Tokyo on the arts, health and aging, worked to take models back for implementation in Japan.
ARTS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Through a collaboration with the Arts and Business Council, Jeffri developed a cultural leadership short course for mid-level managers for and with the Arts and Business Council of NYC. A professional development course, this created a safe space for the examination of challenges of “managing up,” strategic planning, developing new board strategies, and team building. The Arts and Business Council continued to change and refine this model for its own use.
GESTÃO DAS ARTES
After being contacted by a representative of Portugal’s Ministry of Culture, Jeffri worked closely with academics, professionals, private foundations and the government to create the first course in arts management in Portugal. A one-year modular course, offered biennially, it included a foundational module, fund-raising, technology, arts law, accounting and marketing, among other subjects, trained teachers, mentored students, and developed a generation of arts managers who were responsible for changes in the infrastructure of the arts in Portugal.
